How to Use a Doctor Excuse Note Properly?
A doctor’s excuse notes or known as a medical certificate can be used to give notice to a company, an institution, or an organization that you will not be able to attend class or work because you are sick and you have to rest (at home or the hospital). This type of note (letter) can only be issued by a licensed doctor, with a professional format and their signature at the bottom as well. Most of the time, the letter can be brought to the office after you are back from your sick leave and you are filling-in your sick leave form to be given to the HR Department.
With the sick leave days that are given by a company to their employees, using a doctor excuse note means that legally they can stay at home and rest while they will still get paid for the missing days that they don’t come to work (provided they still have their sick leave days available). The document can be used as proof that they are indeed sick and they cannot come to work. If they don’t have any sick leave days available anymore, those days when they are sick will be unpaid. Since there is no overtime for sick leave days, the company usually will pay you with the normal working hours on those days too.

Depending on the illness, usually, a doctor’s excuse note will be for 2-3 days. If it is only for mild illnesses such as flu, fever, cough, etc. However, if you need to be hospitalized, the note can be for even longer days (or even weeks). In some cases, this kind of note from the doctor or a medical certificate can even be extended (it can be for different cases). If they have to stay longer than expected, for example, the doctor in-charge can change the days from 2-3 to 1 week if needed. To get the extended sick leave, the doctor needs to regularly check your condition as well to make sure that you need the extra rest.
